The new square parasol base: modern, stylish, stable

Helcosol has developed a new parasol base for owners of larger parasols looking for a stable anchoring solution. We spoke to Allard Froon, Innovation and New Business Development manager at Hollarts and one of the brains behind the design.

Stability first

‘Stability was our main concern while designing the square parasol base,’ explains Froon. ‘We aimed to create a large, flat base that keeps even larger parasols securely in place. Designing a base with a larger surface area provides the stability that enables the parasol to handle stronger gusts. The parasol base is also available in a 50-kilogram weight category. It would need to be seriously windy to shift that.’

The square parasol base combines functionality and superior aesthetics. ‘We’ve moulded a unique texture that not only gives the base its contemporary look and feel, but also protects it from scratches,’ says Froon. ‘It’s an aesthetic choice, but one that makes the base stand out among more basic designs. A small yet significant improvement are the four rubber feet on the base, which prevent it from leaving skid marks on balconies and patios while being moved.’

Fit for the future

Just like all other products in Helcosol’s range, the square parasol base is built to last. The materials used are resistant to UV damage, frost and heat, so that the base is sturdy and retains its colour in all weather conditions. While the parasol base is not yet made of recycled plastic, the current manufacturing process supports that option, making it easy to switch to more sustainable materials in the near future.

The mould used to produce the bases is made in Europe, and the parasol bases are manufactured in Helcosol’s factories in the Netherlands. ‘Having a factory in the Netherlands not only reduces transport miles and Helcosol’s environmental impact, but also enables us to adapt faster to customer requirements.’

Customer-focused design

Helcosol’s sales team were key collaborators in the design process. ‘Thanks to their input, we were able to build a product with end user needs in mind,’ says Froon. ‘We listened to what customers really want and tried to develop a product that matches those needs as closely as possible. Initial feedback from our sales team and retailers has been positive, so we’re confident we’ve made the right choices.’

Helcosol supplies the new parasol base in four weight categories: 8030KH54, 8035KH54, 8040KH54 and 8050KH54. Please get in touch if interested.
